Where to Stay in Portarlington & the Bellarine

From boutique hotels and beachfront pods to winery glamping, comfortable motels and luxury retreats, there’s a surprisingly diverse range of accommodation in Portarlington and across the Bellarine.

Portarlington Grand Hotel

Best for: a stylish stay in the heart of Portarlington

The beautifully restored Portarlington Grand Hotel combines historic character with 18 contemporary boutique rooms. It’s right in the centre of town, close to the waterfront, restaurants and Portarlington Pier.

The Oxley Estate

Best for: space, gardens and a relaxed country feel

Set across 10 acres in Portarlington, The Oxley Estate combines accommodation with vineyards, gardens, open countryside and farm animals, while still being only around 500 metres from the beach.

With suites and larger accommodation options, including the three-bedroom Oxley Manor, it works particularly well for families and groups.

Bellarine Bayside Beach Pods

Best for: waking up beside the bay

For something small, stylish and very Portarlington, Bellarine Bayside’s adults-only Beach Pods sit right on the beachfront at Portarlington Holiday Park.

They’re ideal for couples wanting a simple coastal escape with Port Phillip Bay just outside the door.

Coastal Glamp at Bellarine Estate

Best for: sleeping among the vines

Coastal Glamp offers furnished bell tents set among the vines at Bellarine Estate winery, just outside Portarlington.

The glamping season generally operates from November until late April.

Portarlington Beach Motel

Best for: easy, comfortable and affordable accommodation

Portarlington Beach Motel is a relaxed local option for couples, families and groups. Rooms include kitchenettes and there’s an outdoor pool, BBQ area and playground, with the town centre and waterfront within walking distance.

Lon Retreat

Best for: a truly luxurious Bellarine escape

For something special, Lon Retreat in Point Lonsdale is one of the Bellarine Peninsula’s standout luxury stays.

The adults-only retreat sits on more than 250 acres and has just seven individually designed suites, along with mineral bathing, a heated mineral pool, steam rooms and views towards the coast and lighthouse.

If your Portarlington visit is part of an anniversary, celebration or indulgent weekend away, Lon is well worth the drive.

The Old Mill, Portarlington

Best for: heritage, design and a group getaway

Built in 1857, The Old Mill is one of Portarlington’s most distinctive historic buildings and has recently been transformed into a collection of beautifully designed private residences by the sea.

It sits just moments from Portarlington Pier and includes a private wellness area with a jacuzzi and sauna. Rather than individual hotel rooms, stays are booked as larger private residences, making it especially suited to families, groups and special occasions.

Stay a little longer on the Bellarine

Portarlington Mussel Tours can easily become part of a bigger Bellarine getaway.

Spend time with us on Port Phillip Bay, then visit a winery, enjoy a long lunch, explore another coastal village or simply slow down beside the water.

We’ll also be sharing more of our favourite things to do in Portarlington and the Bellarine to help you plan your stay.

Coming from Melbourne? Leave the car at home

Port Phillip Ferries operates direct services between Docklands and Portarlington, with the journey taking around 70 minutes.

If you stay close to the Portarlington waterfront, you can arrive by ferry, walk to your accommodation and enjoy a surprisingly easy coastal escape without bringing the car.

My family joined the private tour today and absolutely fell in love with it. The crew was very welcoming and friendly, and they really made the tour personalised and special for us! The food was fresh off from the ocean and they are super delicious and the oyster is the best we have tried ever! There are so many options with the drinks and they also pair fabulously with the food. I would highly recommend going on this tour because it is such a special experience that my family is keen to do again next year! Thanks again to the crew that gave us such a nice tour and we would love to see you again soon!

What a fantastic immersive experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour if you love seafood and champers and a great time. We started our journey out to the Mussel farm by being treated to some lovely oysters and bubbly together with a platter of locally sourced produce. Then the real fun began once at the farm with the lifting of the mussel line and the harvesting of those gigantic mussels. And we tried them raw! Interesting experience. The lovely Connie then taught us how to clean and cook them. What a feast we had! These mussels are absolutely delicious. This has been one of the best tours we’ve done in a long time. Congrats guys on really making this a memorable day & experience.

Absolutely outstanding experience with Portarlington Mussel Tours! From start to finish, this tour was perfect. It was genuinely educational, and the food was a highlight, perfect mussels and Melbourne oysters, plenty of drinks, and cooking demonstrations that really added to the experience. We even got to try mussels raw, straight from the sea, which was amazing. The boat itself was beautiful, with plenty of space and a great mix of outdoor and indoor seating areas to relax in. We ate, drank, and learned so much, couldn't recommend this tour more highly. If you're after a fun, informative, and delicious day out on the water, this is it!

This tour is amazing. The local food and wines which were served when we arrived were delicious. We learnt so much about mussels. We got to try mussels raw which were surprisingly delicious because they are so fresh and then two different cooking demonstrations. The best part was eating those mussels.

What an amazing day out. The service and food was fantastic and they certainly went beyond themselves to make it such a special trip. Thank you for taking the time and care to not only supply myself with alternative options for drinks but also to Lance for your insights into the mussels world. On top of that, making it a special celebration of our birthdays with the extra gifts and exclusive whiskey shots (yummo). I would highly recommend and we’re already planning another group trip down the track. Thank you !!
